StrongVPN ReviewStrongVPN is an old VPN provider that was launched in 2005, and since then the company has made some drastic changes to survive in the VPN industry; switching their support from a ‘ticket support system’ to live chat support. The service is well designed to suit all the operating systems with multiple protocols offered for extensive encryption and security.

They provide 650+ servers in 26 Countries which is not the number we were expecting as multiple other prominent VPN services offer more. The service is spread across various locations globally that include France, Australia, the US, Malaysia, and Japan. The service claims to keep zero logs.

We tested every feature of the StrongVPN and have created a review for you. Let’s begin.

Strong VPN Servers List – Average Servers Coverage!

StrongVPN servers are not the strongest aspect of the service because it provides 650+ servers across 26 countries and 46 cities. Multiple VPN providers offer more servers and country locations that includes physical servers as well. StrongVPN aims to provide privacy and has a global perspective as they provide more than 59,500 VPN IPs which are still expanding.

The service provides the following regions where different countries have servers allocated according to the strength and demand of the service.

  • Australia
  • Canada
  • China
  • Germany
  • Japan
  • Mexico
  • United Kingdom
  • United States

However, the spread of location and server presence could improve because it has no servers in the Middle East apart from Israel and a few areas in South or Central America and none in Africa.

P2P supported Servers Available

All the servers of Strong VPN are P2P supported. For users, this is a plus as all files will be directly shared amongst the system on the network without the interference and need of a central server.

StrongVPN Pricing – Not Worth The Services!

The pricing plan is something that makes or breaks a VPN because users prefer pocket-friendly service no matter how good the features are. This VPN provider offers two pricing plans which are not affordable as such:

They include:

  • $10/month
  • $5.83/month per month for 12 months billed at $69.99

Paying $5.83/month for one year is somehow reasonable compared to many VPN providers in the market. But $10/month is at a higher side. We understand that monthly plans are the most expensive, but we don’t see any satisfaction earning from it as it lacks features and security tools.

Basic Payment Methods – No Convenience for User

Just as the price has no variation or options, the payment method is not flexible considering user’s accessibility. StrongVPN offers three payment methods that include:

  • VISA (Master Card, American Express and Discover)
  • PayPal
  • AliPay

Payment method should always cater user convenience because it is the users who have to be facilitated to buy the services from anywhere through any mode of payment. The service has limited payment options that are present in all VPN providers. The negligence of Bitcoins is poor because nowadays having cryptocurrencies is a necessity for users who want to remain anonymous.

30 – Day Refund Policy

We were expecting some loopholes in the refund policy, but everything seems to be in order. There are no refund conditions attached, and users can make a refund anytime they feel like if they are not 100% satisfied with the service.

StrongVPN Apps – Flexible Operating System Compatibility

Subtracting its average features, StrongVPN app support is off the charts providing up to 12 simultaneous connections and all the contemporary and rare operating system accessibility that supports multiple devices as well. The service has catered to the masses where almost every user globally can configure the Strong VPN app on their devices. These devices include:

  • Windows 10
  • Windows 8
  • Windows 9
  • Windows XP
  • Windows Vista
  • Microsoft Surface / Windows RT

  • ASUS Router OS
  • Sabai Router OS
  • Tomato Router OS
  • DD-WRT Router OS
  • Mikrotik Router OS

These are some of the devices and operating system available that StrongVPN offers. Every operating system has a device specification that offers and suggests the encryption protocols best suited. You can choose the best protocol for the operating system and make your online presence secure.

Apart from these mainstream operating systems, the VPN provider offers more devices compatible which is stunning. They include:

  • Debian/Ubuntu
  • Debian/Ubuntu
  • Fedora 22
  • General Linux

Ubuntu Linux

  • Ubuntu 14
  • Ubuntu 16.10—17.04
  • General Linux

With these operating system available, any user will be able to configure the VPN on their devices, and each device has a tutorial with steps for StrongVPN download. Each tutorial will allow you to choose a protocol of your choice and a protocol will be suggested as well by default. If you are looking for a browser extension than the VPN offers only for Google Chrome. The service has not yet developed a browser add-on for Mozilla or any other browser.

StrongVPN on Kodi – Easy Installation Guide

StrongVPN is compatible with Kodi as well where you can configure the app on the Kodi device without much trouble. From Github, users can easily copy the plugin (VPN Manager for OpenVPN) on a USB after its downloaded and later switch the plugin from the USB to the Kodi device. There is a detailed tutorial available for users who are using Kodi Krypton or less.

Good Variation Among Encryption Protocols

Using the right encryption protocol may seem the easiest task; just use any, and your device will be 100% secure online. That’s a myth! Having the right protocol matters because every device and the operating system has a different set of protocols that work smoothly. Not all protocols are meant for all the devices.

It would differ for Android and iOS. Strong VPN offers a good variety of protocols that you can choose from to enhance your online security.

The VPN provider follows a zero logging policy and implements it thoroughly. The only necessary information they retain will not identify the user.

As a reviewing website, we had to make sure how the data is dealt with third parties such as payment processors. StrongVPN allows third-party companies to ‘view’ and ‘analyze’ site data that will not identify the user.

Average VPN Speed – Could be better

While testing the speed test, we connected from Russia and were by default linked to the server in Chicago. That was bizarre as our connection should have been bridged to servers in Central Europe. The speed, however, was satisfactory while using the PPTP protocol.

The tempo was spoiled with servers located in far off destination, but other long distance servers performed better. While trying Australia’s servers, the average speed was 10mbps which is nothing extraordinary but will get you enough for browsing.

The servers we tested:

  • Ping14
  • Download:16.71 Mbps
  • Upload: 11.22 Mbps

  • Ping: 77
  • Download: 5.15 Mbps
  • Upload: 7.81 Mbps

  • Ping: 320
  • Download: 6.29 Mbps
  • Upload: 1.85 Mbps

  • Ping: 365
  • Download: 9.78 Mbps
  • Upload: 1.43 Mbps

Good for Streaming –  But No Dedicated Servers Available

While conducting this review, we tested StrongVPN for streaming through its servers. Multiple servers worked smoothly for streaming while many didn’t bridge the connection. There are no dedicated servers present, and you will have to manually check each server to confirm if it works for streaming or not.

NOTE: There is no guarantee if the same servers will work again for StrongVPN Netflix, you will have to use the servers for a trial and acknowledge if it works or not.

Apart from Netflix, the VPN offers a streaming connection to:

  • ABC
  • Crunchyroll
  • HBO
  • Hulu
  • IPTV
  • ITV
  • Pandora
  • Popcorn time
  • SkyGo
  • Sling TV
  • Spotify
  • YouTube

However, keep in mind there is no guarantee that these streaming websites will work. It may vary depending on the country you are in and the server you are trying to connect.

StrongVPN Support – Efficient and Fast

StrongVPN app offers support in three categories:

  • Setup Guides
  • Troubleshooting
  • FAQs

These three categories form the basis of your query, and each category has simple guides to solve your question. However, we would suggest opting for the live chat support where the chat representative would assist within a few seconds. They offer a 24/7 live chat support with competent staff to handle your concerns.

There may be times when your question would be on hold depending on the availability of the customer representative, but that would happen once in a blue moon.

No-Logging Policy with Minor Exceptions

The privacy policy of StrongVPN is transparent and clear. They state:

  • We are a zero logging VPN provider, and no data will be retained while the user is connected to the VPN.
  • The information being collected is the email address, payment information, and account setup
  • Information will not be sold to third parties in any case
  • They use cookies to understand site activity, but the option can be disabled

The Verdict

We were skeptical while concluding StrongVPN review because the prices being offered do not match the services it gives. There are no extra security features present which is a downside of the VPN, and the list of servers are less than the big names in the VPN industry. But, if we look at the privacy policy, then we can safely say StrongVPN is a zero logging VPN provider that respects your data and privacy.

It does not retain any information of its user and the users visiting the website. We would recommend this as a good VPN provider, but the prices should be reduced. From a security point of view, the protocols being offered are exceptional as the service provides multiple encryption protocols for your online safety.

They offer:

  • IKEv2 (Internet Key Exchange Protocol Version 2)
  • OpenVPN
  • TCP (Transmission Control Protocol)
  • UDP (User Datagram Protocol)
  • SSTP (Secure Socket Tunneling Protocol)
  • IPsec (IP Security)
  • L2TP (Layer 2 Tunneling Protocol)

The service also suggests and recommends which protocol is most suited for your OS and device. Majority of the VPN services offer 256-bit encryption, but StrongVPN doesn’t fall on the bandwagon as it provides up to 2048-bit encryption so you will never have to worry about your security issues.

The service recommends using IKEv2 protocol in the latest versions of the app or OpenVPN as its a growing need, especially on smartphones. IKEv2 connects instantly and doesn’t suffer from any security issues.
